V Congress of the Brazilian Institute for the Law of the Sea
The Brazilian Institute for the Law of the Sea (BILOS) will hold the V Congress of the Brazilian Institute for the Law of the Sea on November 11th and 12th, 2021. The meeting will take place on a virtual platform and will be broadcast live and online through the BILOS channel on YouTube.
The Congress of BILOS has already become established as the most important event for the expression of ideas in the area of Law of the Sea in Brazil. It will bring together researchers, professionals, authorities and students, both national and foreign, in order to promote debate and discussions on relevant issues in the Law of the Sea.
CONGRESS HISTORY
BILOS is the most consolidated institution which holds events in the Law of the Sea in Brazil. Among other activities developed by the Institute, there is the annual Congress, which serves to bring together a network of people interested in debating themes and disseminating knowledge in the Law of the Sea.
From 2017 to 2019, BILOS promoted its Congress, which was held in in-person format in diverse locations. The first edition of the Congress took place in 2017 in Salvador (Bahia). In 2018, the II Congress was held in Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro) and, in 2019, the III Congress took place in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais).
In order to continue its genuine mission to develop the Law of the Sea in Brazil, since 2020, in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, BILOS has adapted to the new circumstances and began to hold its Congress on a virtual platform, so as not to interrupt work and debates. Consequently, the IV Congress was able to take place in 2020, and this year the V Congress of the Brazilian Institute of the Law of the Sea will be also held online.
All past meetings resulted in great success, with a resounding participation of Brazilian and foreign academics and deep scientific discussions on matters related to the Law of the Sea.
As soon normal conditions and adequate security can be re-established, BILOS will resume holding its annual congress in person, with the city of Caxias do Sul (Rio Grande do Sul) already having been elected to host the next event in 2022.

CALL FOR PAPERS
BILOS invites all professors, researchers, students, and professionals in the field of the Law of the Sea to participate in the selection process of articles to be presented at the V Congress of the Brazilian Institute of the Law of the Sea and published in the book “Law of the Sea: Reflections, Trends and Perspectives, Volume 5”. The deadline for submission of articles ends on August 15th, 2021.

GOALS
The V Congress of the Brazilian Institute of Law of the Sea has as its main objective to bring together the main scholars and those interested in the Law of the Sea in Brazil as well as international guests to discuss and promote the development of this branch of International Law.
METHODOLOGY
The V Congress of the Brazilian Institute of Law of the Sea will combine lectures by major national and international names linked to the Law of the Sea, with the presentation of articles and academic papers sent by the event’s participants, as published in a notice, and always mediated by a debater.
REGISTRATION FOR ARTICLE SUBMISSION:
Registration with a single value of BRL 240,00 (two hundred and forty Brazilian reais) per author.
Enrollment benefits:

– presentation of the article at the V Congress of the Brazilian Institute of Law of the Sea (the article is subject to the reviewers’ approval);
