Seminar on the Occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea
The Brazilian Institute for the Law of the Sea (BILOS) gives notice and extends an invitation to its members and the general public to its Seminar on Occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), which will be held live on BILOS’ official channel on YouTube, on 25 February 2021.
This Seminar aims to celebrate the launch of the book entitled International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea – 25 years of jurisdiction (1996-2021), edited by Professors André de Paiva Toledo and Tiago V. Zanella, in memory of Professor Vicente Marotta Rangel, who was Judge of ITLOS between 1996 and 2015. The book is a collective work, consisting of chapters written by several Lusophone researchers. It is expected to become a reference in Portuguese about ITLOS for academics, lawyers, and other related professionals. Because of this, the Seminar will be only in Portuguese.
The Seminar will take place following the structural plan of the book, as follows:
In the first part of the Seminar, the editors will present an overview of the creation, organization, functioning and performance of ITLOS as a central forum for the peaceful settlement of marine legal disputes. This first part coincides with the “General Part” of the book.
In the second part of the Seminar, which coincides with de “Special Part” of the book, the 29 chapters, dedicated to the 29 cases officially listed by ITLOS, will be presented by the respective authors. The succession of presentations will follow the numerical order of cases, adopted by ITLOS.
Please find below the Seminar’s schedule, which may eventually be adjusted due to speaker request. The schedule of lectures is according to the official time in Brasilia (GMT-3).
